Blue-green monoclinic crystals or particles, odorless. Weathering in dry air and oxidation of the surface to brown basic ferric sulfate in moist air. It becomes tetrahydrate at 56.6 C and monohydrate at 65 C. Soluble in water, almost insoluble in ethanol. Its aqueous solution slowly oxidizes in air when it is cold, and quickly oxidizes in hot. Addition of alkali or dew can accelerate oxidation. The relative density (d15) was 1.897. It's stimulating. Anhydrous ferrous sulfate is a white powder. The crystal containing crystalline water is light green. The crystal is commonly known as "green alum". It is light green when dissolved in aqueous solution. Ferrous sulfate can be used for chromatographic reagents and drip analysis to determine platinum, selenium, nitrite and nitrate. Ferrous sulphate can also be used as reducing agent, manufacturing ferrite, water purification, polymerization catalyst, photographic plate making and so on.
